First Aid 101

Being away from home and in a great city like Washington, D.C. certainly has major perks. From staying up till 4 a.m. without having mom or dad breathing down your neck, to having a current member of the CIA lecture one of your classes, GW offers a lot. Yet, sometimes the simple pleasures of home do not follow you to college. One of these is the school nurse being a quick walk down the hall, or your parents being able to take you to the doctor. This page is designed to help you stay prepared regarding basic first aid skills, and to help keep you and your friends safe.

Fire Extinguisher

When you move into your dorm at GWU, it is very important to locate the fire extinguisher on your floor, or buy one for the from if you feel that is necessary. Make sure it is up to code, and that you understand how to use the fire extinguisher.

AED Kit

The AED kit is also a valuable life-saving device. These kits are meant to help restart an individual’s heart if it stops. Ultimately, someone who is certified to use an AED kit can only use it in case of an emergency. However, it is also important that everyone knows where the AED kit is located in their dorm. Don’t worry, these kits are so easy to understand that a 3rd grader could work it without a problem. Each kit provides a very simple set of instructions to follow on how to properly use the AED. Remember, using an AED can save someone’s life!
